It is not enough to simply win conservative seats in Congress in the next election. Conservatives must begin now to take the message out that will subordinate the aggressive push made by radical liberals over the past few years that led to the congressional majority and to the election of a radical liberal to the White House. Newly invigorated grass roots conservatives will be able to elect enough conservative candidates to Congress to create a stalemate through the 2012 elections, which will be a welcome safety against the radical policies and legislation that are currently coming from the empowered left. But, to contain the on-going radical assault and to begin a move back to conservative principles, and to allow the economy to recover, there must be a clear and distinct voice coming from conservatives that is more that a defense against accusations made by the left to confuse voters and conservatives. The liberal machine has been well-planned and organized to confuse and manipulate the issues to give their candidates an advantage against conservatives, who are still campaigning in traditional ways to traditional voter audiences. The result is that voters have no idea what a liberal candidate actually believes, but are easily convinced that the conservative opponent is the enemy of the people, because the same accusations are made and repeated in many places, including the complicit general media. No one yet is clear on what Barack Obama's real objectives are, after 2 years of constant campaigning and 11 months in office, but they are convinced that he is the Messiah, that George W. Bush is the worst president in history, and that Sarah Palin is even worse, because the liberal machine said so.
To make matters worse, the Republicans who would be leaders are almost without a voice, partly due to the traditional, tired old message they employ to communicate with voters, partly due to their loss of focus on traditional conservative values, but largely due to the effect of the same liberal machinery that demonized Bush. The liberals, including Obama, no doubt believe that this machinery, and the deception it employs, can produce the same results in 2010 and 2012 that they had in 2006 and 2008. And they could be right, if nothing is done to expose and explain this new strategy to the general voting public.
But, we should not forget that the voters who make the difference are honest Americans who also are being duped by the liberals, and that they, too, expect simple honesty from their elected officials. These are the voters of the "moderate middle"--the "swing voters"--who are basically independent. They may be Democrats and even have some liberal beliefs, but they don't want to be lied to, they don't want Socialism, and they don't want to radically change America. And they were lied to in the 2008 Presidential election, and they are being lied to by the radical liberals in Congress and by the general media. Herein lies the opportunity for conservatives to do what we do best: tell the simple truth to the huge majority of Americans who want to know the truth; and return to the policies of representing the middle class, and to preserving and refreshing understanding of the Constitution. Forget the small voter group that is radically liberal--they are children, dissidents, and celebrities. They are non-producers in the real economy, they are always present, and can't be changed. Explain to the conservative candidates what we expect from them; and, expect to find new candidates when the old ones refuse to refocus and abandon their special interest benefactors. This will take some time, but we too, like the radical liberals, must have a plan. But, our plan has an advantage--it benefits the majority of the American people.
There is a serious challenge to the American Republic and to the traditional values that most Americans value, even if they aren't readily aware of those values much of the time. This is a fully aggressive effort by Socialists to forever change the American system to something that most Americans will not want when they realize the intent. Most Americans want and expect a vibrant economy. But, our economy will not recover under the policies of the current liberal Congress and the radical Obama administration--it is not possible to create a vibrant economy in a wildly expanding government that opposes business and the creation of wealth.
It is not sufficient to lament the demise of the great American system with its superior economy, freedoms, and individual opportunities--it must not happen. And, the responsibility to change the current debacle is largely in the hands of average Americans--as it has always been.
